A Refreshing Watermelon Drink

A Watermelon Drink For Those Hot Days

On a very hot day like today, this watermelon drink was an added bonus to help cool the heat .  The sun has been unforgiving for some days now and we are now seeing signs of the dry season. The hills and mountain sides are light green to brown in colour with wisps of smoke indicative of the many forest fires that are common around this time of the year. So, having a sip of this watermelon drink was refreshing.

We had a watermelon in the fridge and decided to make a drink out of it. Watermelon is not really a favourite of mine because the seeds somehow to me always get in the way. I just hate to stop and pick out the seeds!  It’s like eat ……stop….eat….stop….eat.stop….You swear your mouth is in traffic on the Uriah Butler Highway. lol!!! 😀

The watermelon drink proved to be a different and welcomed experience. It has me wanting to have watermelon more often now and that’s a good thing. I guess it’s the same with children when, as a parent, you’re trying to get them to eat a fruit that they don’t want to eat. You always have to find creative means of presenting the same fruit. And, no I didn’t have any problems eating any fruit …Well except for watermelon. But, I’m a big fan of watermelon now and don’t mind it at all.

Anyhow back to the drink…My sister in law is the one who introduced me to it saying that in Costa Rica this is quite popular. So, after some rummaging on the internet I saw that not only in Costa Rica, but also in Mexico it is very common. You know it’s like doubles in Trinidad….it is everywhere lol!! One taste and I was hooked and now I have an opportunity to share this wonderful and simple recipe.

Of course, you can spike up things a bit as usual by adding some rum, liqueur, or pineapple juice as I’ve seen in some recipes but it’s all up to you. So here’s Watermelon Drink/ Agua de Sandia …Enjoy!
