This Soy Sauce Noodles recipe was contributed by Savitri Lalla, one of my facebook fans. The recipe is quite easy to prepare and can be served with your favourite chicken. Savitri Lalla served her noodles with Sweet Chilli Pineapple Chicken.
I believe that must have been a delicious combination as the sauce may really elevate the taste of the pasta. Even though rice was also served with her meal, I also believe the noodles and chicken may not need the rice if you're on a low carb diet. Nevertheless, that is the way it's served in Chinese restaurants here in Trinidad and Tobago.
I prefer egg noodles more than regular ones for this recipe. Buy the one that is straight and long (Sincere Brand). They are firmer and would not easily break while boiling. You should note that egg noodles have higher amounts of protein and essential amino acids than the regular ones. Just on that, I believe they are a healthier choice for children.
Soy Sauce Noodles Recipe
Ingredients:
1 pack egg noodles
water to boil
1 tablespoon oil for sautéing
1 medium onion, sliced
1 medium sweet pepper, chopped*
I tablespoon oyster sauce
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon white sugar
¼ teaspoon sesame oil
fresh chopped chives for garnish, optional
*Note: other veggies can be used as well.
Method:
First, boil the noodles in unsalted water according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
Place sauté pan over medium heat and heat oil for 1 minute. Add onion and sauté for 1 minute, followed by optional veggies. Cook until wilted (about 2 minutes). Then add noodles, Soy sauce, oyster sauce, white sugar and
lastly add sesame oil. Turn off stove and toss. Garnish with chopped chives (optional). Serve warm.
